Orthodontics FAQs

Q. What is the right age for braces?

A. Most orthodontic treatment begins between ages 9-14. However, an orthodontist can identify early problems with jaw growth and erupting permanent teeth by the age of 7. Some orthodontic problems are easier to treat if they are diagnosed early.

If you think your child might need braces, bring him or her into iSmile for an orthodontic consultation with Dr. Chelian. In most cases, your child won't need braces right away. We will collect information and then see your child on a regular basis until it is the right time to start treatment. This improves the chances of a positive outcome with the least amount of effort. Early orthodontic intervention can sometimes result in a less extensive treatment recommendation as well.

Q. How much do braces cost?

A. Financially, the investment in orthodontic treatment is dependent on a number of factors, such as the severity of the problem, its complexity, and the length of treatment. Costs range from $1,500 to $7,000, and even higher for adults. At iSmile, we can often spread out payments to bring the cost down to under $100 per month. Q. How long does treatment take?

A. Every orthodontic patient is different. Generally, most patients are in the active phase of treatment for one to three years.

Stop by iSmile and visit Dr. Chelian or call (978) 767-2505 to find out if orthodontic treatment is right for you or your child. We are convenient to Salem, Beverly, Danvers and surrounding Northshore towns.
